If you collaborate with people who use another reference management system or (to a lesser extent) word processor/typesetting program, you know that things can get messy.
I just found out Bibtex4Word, and this could be a good solution:
BibTex4Word is an add-in for Microsoft Word that allows the citation of references from a BibTex database. BibTex4Word will insert a bibliography into your document using your choice formatting style.
It is intended for three types of user:
- LateX users who need to use Microsoft Word. BibTex4Word allows you to use your existing BibTex database and favourite bibliography style.
- Word users who can’t afford a commercial bibliography package but need to insert citations and bibliographies into their documents. Everything you need to manage references is available free.
- Word users who have a commercial bibliography package but who don’t like it. BibTex4Word is lightweight, transparent and doesn’t mess up your documents. It is also free.
Bibtex4Word is GPL’d. the only downside is that it depends on latex, so you might need to install MikTex (http://www.miktex.org/) and use the MikTex package manager to install any style files that you want to use.

word 2007 has a built in bibliography function.
to be frank, i have found reference programs to be more work than they are worth. often times, i enter my sources in an excel sheet, and when i am ready, i sort my sources and paste them into my document.
but since i reuse sources often, i have been using the word bib function more frequently.

How do I use Thompson Scientific’s (ISI web of science) bibliographic database facility? Is it possible to download the title, author, date, pages, volume data of a selected paper in bibtex entry format? Are there tools to extract this information as a bibtex entry from sciencedirect.com or google scholar? Help much appreciated.

Unfortunately, macros were disabled in Mac Office 2008, and BibDesk4Word does not appear to be functional.
I found a python application called BibDesk To Word (not 4 Word) that does exactly what I need, in Word 2008: http://warp.byu.edu/BibDeskToWord/

To install a LaTeX distribution on Mac, Linux or Windows, I’d recommend TeX Live.

I have found bibtex4word to be a quite useful tool for my needs, and I feel I will be using this often.
However, I couldn’t find any option in the add-in to have different citing styles in the same document:
for instance, when you cite in the text: Hey (2008), instead bibtex4word cites this as the rest of the doc: (Hey, 2008).
I couldn’t find a solution for this, as if I change the style so that the () are gone, this applyies to the entire doc… argh!
